CAAP Clinical Assessment of Articulation and Phonology Instructions for administering the test: Before administering the CAAP, the examiner should review all test materials and forms and address any present concerns, which include: • Obtaining signed permission forms. • Collecting any needed background or other case history information. • Establishing a convenient test time with the child’s teacher or caretaker. • Listening to the child in a natural setting to estimate how much evaluation time may be needed. Instructions: 1st step: You must calculate the Child’s Chronological Age. To calculate chronological age, you must subtract the child’s birth date from the test date. When rounding up, round up one month for the days that are 15 and over. Instructions: Step 3: School Age Sentences Tab (Sample Plate L) • Assessment procedure for Plates S1-S8 o Examiner says: Say all the words I say, “The elephant plays her favorite computer game.” If the child does not say all of the words, say the sentence again and have the child repeat it. O Examiner says: Remember to say all of the words. Say, “ The elephant plays her favorite computer game.” Step 4 Plate O contains the table of contents for the Phonological Process Probes • Plate P contains directions for plates 45-69 • This section contains 2-4 pictures on a plate, labeled A-D. O Begin with picture A and if the child does not respond correctly, say the target word and have the child repeat it. O Continue with B, C, and D o Continue with this procedure until the end of the test. Instructions for Scoring and Interpreting the Test • Percentage of Occurrence of Phonological Processes: This is calculated by adding up the number of “yes” responses found for each process to get the percentage of occurrence. This is done after the test is administered. • Raw Scores: o Consonant Inventory Score: calculate a raw score by summing up all errors on the Consonant Inventory table. O School Age Sentences Score: calculate a raw score by summing up all errors on School Age Sentences. Converting Raw Score to Standard Score o Directions are found in Chapter 6 of the Examiner’s Manual to calculate standard scores for the Consonant Inventory and School Age Sentences.
